OpenDocument Text (ODT)

ODT (OpenDocument Text) is an open standard for word processor documents and the native format of LibreOffice Writer and OpenOffice Writer. Because the specification is open, the format is supported by many applications beyond the two suites that created it. It is a popular, vendor-neutral alternative to proprietary word processor formats.

Use ODT when you work in LibreOffice, OpenOffice or another program that favours open standards, or when you want documents that are not locked to one vendor. ODT is also a safe interchange format between different office suites.
