How to convert JPG to GIF
The JPG is decoded on your device and re-encoded as GIF with the browser's own graphics engine. Because nothing is uploaded, even dozens of photos convert quickly and privately. GIF works everywhere, from old email clients to chat apps.
Step 1: Choose your JPG file
Drag and drop a .jpg, .jpeg, .jfif file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.
Step 2: Convert to GIF
Each image is converted to GIF immediately.
Step 3: Download the GIF
Save each result individually, or download everything as a single ZIP when you convert several files.
Good to know
- Converting to GIF is lossless from here on, but it cannot restore detail already lost in the JPG compression, and files are usually larger.
- GIF is limited to 256 colours, so photos show some banding; it remains the most compatible format for simple graphics.
- Photo metadata (EXIF, GPS location) is removed from the converted image, which is good for privacy.
Why use this JPG to GIF converter?
- Batch conversion: drop several images at once and download a ZIP.
- Nothing is uploaded, so personal photos stay private.
- Original resolution is kept.
- No watermark, no account, no app to install.
Is it free?
Yes. Converting JPG to GIF is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device.
Is my file uploaded?
The JPG file is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, never stored and never seen by anyone, so this is safe for confidential files.
About the formats
What is JPG?
JPG, or JPEG, is an image format named after the Joint Photographic Experts Group, which created the standard in the early 1990s. It uses lossy compression that discards detail the eye barely notices, so photos take up far less space. It does not support transparency or animation, and every time you re-save a JPG it can lose a little more quality.
Use JPG for photographs and images with smooth colour gradients that you want to share, upload or email at a small size. Avoid it for logos, screenshots with text or anything that needs a transparent background; PNG handles those better.
JPG (JPEG image)What is GIF?
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and is best known today for short, looping animations. Each frame can use at most 256 colours, and transparency is all-or-nothing: a pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque. Its compression is lossless, but the colour limit makes photos look grainy or banded.
Use GIF for simple animations, reactions and small graphics that must play almost anywhere, including email clients. For longer or more colourful animations, an MP4 or WebM video, or an animated WebP, is far smaller and looks better.
