How to convert WEBP to GIF
The WEBP is decoded on your device and re-encoded as GIF with the browser's own graphics engine. Because nothing is uploaded, even dozens of photos convert quickly and privately. GIF works everywhere, from old email clients to chat apps.
Step 1: Choose your WEBP file
Drag and drop a .webp file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.
Step 2: Convert to GIF
Each image is converted to GIF immediately.
Step 3: Download the GIF
Save each result individually, or download everything as a single ZIP when you convert several files.
Good to know
- Transparency is preserved.
- Animated images are converted using their first frame.
- Converting to GIF is lossless from here on, but it cannot restore detail already lost in the WEBP compression, and files are usually larger.
- GIF is limited to 256 colours, so photos show some banding; it remains the most compatible format for simple graphics.
- Photo metadata (EXIF, GPS location) is removed from the converted image, which is good for privacy.
Why use this WEBP to GIF converter?
- Batch conversion: drop several images at once and download a ZIP.
- Nothing is uploaded, so personal photos stay private.
- Original resolution is kept.
- No watermark, no account, no app to install.
Is it free?
Yes. Converting WEBP to GIF is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device.
Is my file uploaded?
The WEBP file is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, never stored and never seen by anyone, so this is safe for confidential files.
About the formats
What is WEBP?
WebP is an image format developed by Google and released in 2010 to make web images lighter. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, so it can replace JPG, PNG and GIF in many cases. All modern browsers display it, although some older desktop programs still cannot open it.
Use WebP for images on websites and apps, where smaller files mean faster pages. If you need to send an image to someone who will edit it or open it in older software, JPG or PNG are the more compatible choice.
WebP (Web Picture format)What is GIF?
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and is best known today for short, looping animations. Each frame can use at most 256 colours, and transparency is all-or-nothing: a pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque. Its compression is lossless, but the colour limit makes photos look grainy or banded.
Use GIF for simple animations, reactions and small graphics that must play almost anywhere, including email clients. For longer or more colourful animations, an MP4 or WebM video, or an animated WebP, is far smaller and looks better.
