Convert PNG to GIF

Convert PNG images to GIF in seconds, right in your browser. No upload, no signup and no watermark.

Your file never leaves your device.

How to convert PNG to GIF

The PNG is decoded on your device and re-encoded as GIF with the browser's own graphics engine. Because nothing is uploaded, even dozens of photos convert quickly and privately. GIF works everywhere, from old email clients to chat apps.

  1. Step 1: Choose your PNG file

Drag and drop a .png file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.

  2. Step 2: Convert to GIF

Each image is converted to GIF immediately.

  3. Step 3: Download the GIF

Save each result individually, or download everything as a single ZIP when you convert several files.

Good to know

  • Transparency is preserved.
  • GIF is limited to 256 colours, so photos show some banding; it remains the most compatible format for simple graphics.
  • Photo metadata (EXIF, GPS location) is removed from the converted image, which is good for privacy.

Why use this PNG to GIF converter?

  • Batch conversion: drop several images at once and download a ZIP.
  • Nothing is uploaded, so personal photos stay private.
  • Original resolution is kept.
  • No watermark, no account, no app to install.

Is it free?

Yes. Converting PNG to GIF is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device.

Is my file uploaded?

The PNG file is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, never stored and never seen by anyone, so this is safe for confidential files.

About the formats

What is PNG?

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless image format created in the mid-1990s as an open replacement for GIF. It keeps every pixel exactly as it was and supports an alpha channel, so images can have smooth, partial transparency. Photos saved as PNG are much larger than the same photos as JPG.

Use PNG for logos, icons, screenshots, diagrams and any image with sharp edges, text or a transparent background. For photographs where file size matters, JPG or WebP are usually better choices.

What is GIF?

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and is best known today for short, looping animations. Each frame can use at most 256 colours, and transparency is all-or-nothing: a pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque. Its compression is lossless, but the colour limit makes photos look grainy or banded.

Use GIF for simple animations, reactions and small graphics that must play almost anywhere, including email clients. For longer or more colourful animations, an MP4 or WebM video, or an animated WebP, is far smaller and looks better.
