How to convert AAC to WAV
WAV is uncompressed PCM audio, the standard for audio editing, DAWs, broadcast and sound design. This tool decodes the AAC with your browser's audio engine and encodes WAV locally, so the file never leaves your device.
Step 1: Choose your AAC file
Drag and drop a .aac file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.
Step 2: Choose the quality
The audio is decoded and re-encoded on your device.
Step 3: Download the WAV
Save each result individually, or download everything as a single ZIP when you convert several files.
Good to know
- WAV files are large (about 10 MB per minute in CD quality) because they are not compressed.
- A lossless target cannot restore quality that the AAC compression already removed; it only prevents further loss.
- Decoding uses your browser's built-in codecs. Chrome and Edge support the widest range of formats.

About the formats
What is AAC?
AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) is a lossy audio codec standardised by MPEG as part of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, and designed to succeed MP3. At the same bitrate it generally sounds better than MP3. It is the standard audio codec in MP4 videos and is widely used by Apple, YouTube and digital broadcasting. A .aac file is a raw AAC stream, while .m4a wraps the same audio in an MPEG-4 container.
Use AAC for music, podcasts and audio tracks where you want good quality in small files, especially for Apple devices, smartphones and streaming. If a file must play on very old hardware, MP3 is more universal; for archiving, keep a lossless copy.
AAC (Advanced Audio Coding)What is WAV?
WAV (Waveform Audio File Format) was introduced by Microsoft and IBM in 1991 and is based on the RIFF container. It normally holds uncompressed PCM audio, so it keeps every detail of the recording, but a few minutes of CD-quality stereo already take tens of megabytes. Almost every audio editor, operating system and device can open it.
Use WAV for recording, editing, mastering and exchanging audio between studio tools, where quality must stay untouched. When you need to share or store large amounts of audio, FLAC gives the same quality in smaller files, and MP3 or AAC are best for casual listening.
