Convert DOC to TXT

Convert a DOC document to plain UTF-8 text in seconds. The file is read directly in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and the result is ready almost instantly.

Your file never leaves your device.

How to convert DOC to TXT

This converter reads the structure of the DOC document, including headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and links, and writes it out as plain UTF-8 text. It is ideal for search indexing, word counts, translation tools, scripts and anywhere formatting gets in the way. The engine runs locally with WebAssembly, which means large files convert quickly and privately without waiting for an upload.

  1. Step 1: Choose your DOC file

Drag and drop a .doc file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.

  2. Step 2: Let it convert

The DOC is parsed on your device and turned into TXT automatically; there are no settings to worry about.

  3. Step 3: Download the TXT

Save each result individually, or download everything as a single ZIP when you convert several files.

Good to know

  • DOC is the binary pre-2007 Office format. It is read directly, so you do not need to resave it as docx first.
  • Headings are only recognised as headings when the original uses heading styles rather than bold, enlarged body text.
  • Password-protected files must be unlocked in the original application before converting.

Why use this DOC to TXT converter?

  • All formatting is stripped, leaving only the words in reading order.
  • UTF-8 output keeps accents, symbols and non-Latin scripts intact.
  • Tiny files that open in any editor on any operating system.
  • No upload, no queue and no account: the file never leaves your device.

Is it free?

Yes. Converting DOC to TXT is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device.

Is my file uploaded?

The DOC file is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, never stored and never seen by anyone, so this is safe for confidential files.

About the formats

What is DOC?

DOC is the binary document format used by Microsoft Word up to Word 2003. It stores text, formatting, images and tables in a proprietary structure that Microsoft later documented publicly. Since Word 2007 it has been replaced by DOCX, which is based on XML and ZIP, but Word, LibreOffice and most word processors still open DOC files.

Use DOC only when you must share a document with someone on a very old version of Word or with a system that accepts nothing else. For everything else, DOCX is smaller, more robust and better supported. If you receive a DOC file, saving it as DOCX or PDF usually makes it easier to work with.

What is TXT?

TXT is the plain-text format: raw characters with no formatting, styles or embedded objects. Because it makes no assumptions about the reader, a TXT file opens in any text editor, terminal, phone or device. It is the most compatible format that exists.

Use TXT for notes, logs, code and any content that must remain readable in every tool, now and in the future. Choose plain text when you need universal compatibility and have no need for formatting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DOC to TXT conversion free?

Yes. It is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device.

Will the TXT keep the formatting of my DOC?

No, and that is the point: TXT keeps only the text. Use the DOC to Markdown or DOC to HTML tools if you want to keep headings, lists and tables.

What happens to images inside the DOC?

Images are not embedded in the output; the converter focuses on the text and its structure. If you need the images, export them from the original application.

Is it safe to convert doc to txt here?

Yes. The work happens on your own device with WebAssembly and browser APIs, so the file is not uploaded at all. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything runs in a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. There is no app, plugin or account.
