How to convert FLV to MP3

MP3 plays on every phone, car stereo, speaker and media player, which makes it the safest format for sharing audio. The FLV is converted with FFmpeg, the industry-standard media engine, on our server and deleted immediately afterwards. It is the easiest way to keep the music, a talk or a voice track from a video.

  1. Step 1: Choose your FLV file

Drag and drop a .flv file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.

  2. Step 2: Convert to MP3

The file is converted by FFmpeg on a secure server.

  3. Step 3: Download the MP3

Save the MP3 file to your device. You can start again with another file right away.

Good to know

  • Only the soundtrack is extracted; the video stream is discarded, so the result is much smaller than the original.
  • The default 192 kbps is transparent for most listeners; choose 320 kbps for music archiving or 128 kbps for speech and podcasts.

Why use this FLV to MP3 converter?

  • MP3 plays on every phone, car stereo, speaker and media player, which makes it the safest format for sharing audio.
  • Keeps the original sample rate and stereo channels.
  • No watermark, no length limit within the file size cap.
  • Files are deleted automatically after conversion.

Is it free?

Yes. Converting FLV to MP3 is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device. This server-based conversion accepts files up to 100 MB.

Is my file uploaded?

This conversion needs a server engine, so the file is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection, converted in an isolated temporary folder and deleted automatically as soon as the result is sent back. Nothing is kept, logged or shared.

About the formats

What is FLV?

FLV (Flash Video) is a container format created for Adobe Flash Player, originally by Macromedia. In the 2000s it powered most online video, including the early YouTube, typically with Sorenson Spark, VP6 or H.264 video. Adobe ended support for Flash Player at the end of 2020, so browsers no longer play FLV, although players such as VLC still open it.

There is little reason to create new FLV files today. If you have old FLV videos from downloads or archives, converting them to MP4 lets you watch, edit and share them on any modern device.

What is MP3?

MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) is a lossy audio format developed largely at the Fraunhofer Institute and standardised by MPEG in the early 1990s. It removes sounds that human hearing is unlikely to notice, shrinking files dramatically. Quality depends on the bitrate: higher bitrates sound closer to the original. Its patents have expired and virtually every player, car stereo and browser supports it.

Use MP3 when compatibility is the priority: podcasts, music for older devices, audio for websites or files you send to anyone. For archiving or editing, keep a lossless original such as WAV or FLAC, because each lossy re-encode adds artefacts.

At the default bitrate the difference is inaudible for most people. Choose a higher bitrate if you plan to edit or archive the audio.
