How to convert OPUS to MP3
MP3 plays on every phone, car stereo, speaker and media player, which makes it the safest format for sharing audio. This tool decodes the OPUS with your browser's audio engine and encodes MP3 locally with the LAME MP3 encoder compiled for the web, so the file never leaves your device.
Step 1: Choose your OPUS file
Drag and drop a .opus file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.
Step 2: Choose the quality
The audio is decoded and re-encoded on your device.
Step 3: Download the MP3
Save each result individually, or download everything as a single ZIP when you convert several files.
Good to know
- The default 192 kbps is transparent for most listeners; choose 320 kbps for music archiving or 128 kbps for speech and podcasts.
- Decoding uses your browser's built-in codecs. Chrome and Edge support the widest range of formats.
Why use this OPUS to MP3 converter?

Is it free?
Yes. Converting OPUS to MP3 is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device.

About the formats
What is OPUS?
Opus is an open, royalty-free lossy audio codec standardised by the IETF in 2012. It handles everything from narrow-band speech to high-quality stereo music, adapts its bitrate on the fly and has very low latency, which is why it is the mandatory audio codec in WebRTC. An .opus file usually stores Opus audio inside an Ogg container.
Use Opus for voice recordings, calls, podcasts and streaming where you want excellent quality at low bitrates. It is supported by modern browsers and many apps, but some car stereos and older players cannot play it, so MP3 or AAC are safer for maximum compatibility.
Opus (Opus audio codec)What is MP3?
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) is a lossy audio format developed largely at the Fraunhofer Institute and standardised by MPEG in the early 1990s. It removes sounds that human hearing is unlikely to notice, shrinking files dramatically. Quality depends on the bitrate: higher bitrates sound closer to the original. Its patents have expired and virtually every player, car stereo and browser supports it.
Use MP3 when compatibility is the priority: podcasts, music for older devices, audio for websites or files you send to anyone. For archiving or editing, keep a lossless original such as WAV or FLAC, because each lossy re-encode adds artefacts.

Is OPUS to MP3 conversion free?
Yes. It is free, with no watermark, signup or email required. Local conversions have no artificial file-size or daily cap; the practical limit is your device.
Will the MP3 sound the same as the OPUS?
At the default bitrate the difference is inaudible for most people. Choose a higher bitrate if you plan to edit or archive the audio.
Are tags such as title and artist kept?
Metadata tags are not copied by the in-browser encoder; add them afterwards in your music player if needed.
Is it safe to convert opus to mp3 here?
Yes. The work happens on your own device with WebAssembly and browser APIs, so the file is not uploaded at all. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. There is no app, plugin or account.
