How to convert PPTX to PPT

PPT is the legacy binary Office format, still required by some older software, government portals and company systems. This converter opens the PPTX with LibreOffice and saves it as PPT, preserving text, styles, tables and images as faithfully as possible. It is the quickest way to open an incompatible file or to meet a format requirement without installing an office suite.

  1. Step 1: Choose your PPTX file

Drag and drop a .pptx, .pptm, .ppsx file onto the converter or click to browse. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.

  2. Step 2: Convert to PPT

The file is uploaded securely and saved as PPT by LibreOffice in a temporary, isolated folder.

  3. Step 3: Download the PPT

Save the PPT file to your device. You can start again with another file right away.

About the formats

What is PPTX?

PPTX (PowerPoint Open XML) is the standard format for slide-based presentations, created and edited in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides and LibreOffice Impress. A presentation is made up of slides that can hold text, images, charts, videos and speaker notes. Like other modern Office formats, PPTX files are ZIP containers storing XML.

Use PPTX whenever you build a slide deck to present, pitches, lessons, webinars and team updates. It keeps the structure of slides and notes intact, so you can also convert it to PDF to share a fixed version.

What is PPT?

PPT is the binary presentation format used by Microsoft PowerPoint up to version 2003. A single file holds slides, text, images, charts, speaker notes and transitions. Related extensions are .pps, which opens directly as a slideshow, and .pot, used for templates. Since PowerPoint 2007 the default is the XML-based PPTX.

Use PPT only for compatibility with very old versions of PowerPoint or with legacy systems that require it. For new presentations, PPTX is lighter and more reliable, and PDF is the safest way to share slides that nobody needs to edit.
